these girls are on fire

Hey sports fans, this house is having a heck of a season. As a girl with very little athletic prowess (although I could do  a mean straddle jump in my cheer leading days) it is a total thrill to watch my own girls go out and succeed in the sports they love. In both swimming and gymnastics, Logan and Riley are seeing more top awards than ever before, putting up times and scores to knock their personal bests out of the park, and more than anything, having fun.

I think the best part for Mike and I is watching as they realize their own power and ability. Sports is such a metaphor for life and these life lessons will take them far beyond any mat or pool. Our sore, bleacher-sitting butts and our diminished bank balances seem worth every bit this year as they excel and grow. I could not be more proud of their work ethics, tenacity, positive attitudes, and good sportsmanship. Their scores and times are pretty flipping awesome, too! And I have to admit, winning sure makes sitting through the long meets much more fun!

Every time I hear Alicia Keys’ song, “Girl on Fire” I just can’t help but think of our two strong little women. We know they’ll have good meets and not-so-good ones for sure. For now, we’re enjoying the ride!!

Go Team Anderson!

A few favorite shots from the last couple of meets:

Great form, Logan!

Logan at last weekend’s meet, just before taking 30 seconds off her 100 Breast and 1st place in her heat and age group! She also took 1st in 100 Free and 2nd in 50 Fly, which worked out to be 7th and 4th in her age group overall. Lots of ribbons! Way to go kiddo!

This is the coolest picture! Look at Riley’s face in the bottom left corner after she’s seen her whopping 9.65 bar score on the scoreboard in the top right. Totally awesome!

1st on bars, 4th on floor, 5th on beam, 7th on vault and 3rd AA (for the second meet in a row)!! Nice work Riley!!
